Job
Costing
|
PRESStige
Job Costing is a complete costing and raw material inventory
program which can run as a stand alone program or in conjunction
with PRESStige Estimating and Accounts Receivable programs.
The program was designed for commercial printing companies but
can be used by any business that needs to track time and material
costs against jobs. By using the unique report generator, you
can design reports to analyze your data in any way you prefer.
|
| FEATURES
AND BENEFITS SUMMARY: |
| Flexible
Department and Activity Setup |
| Departments
are more general, activities are specific. For example, a Press
could be a department. Appropriate activities might be make-ready,
wash-up, run, maintenance etc. You can have up to 1 million
departments and activities. |
| |
| Hourly
Costs Tied to Activities and/or Employees |
| You
can set up your activities with the employee rates already included,
or you can have employee hourly rates in addition if you like.
When you define reports you can ask for "machine cost" (activity
rate only), "labor cost" (employee cost only) or a sum of the
two. |
| |
| Labor
Codes, Simple And Powerful |
| How
do you differentiate work done which is overtime, rework, author
alternation, non-chargeable etc? PRESStige Job Costing includes
a "labor code" which identifies each transaction according to
the labor codes you have defined (up to 10). Your reports can
show costs based on any subset of these labor codes. This makes
it easy to differentiate between chargeable and non-chargeable
time, author alterations, non-billable time and more. |
| |
| Estimated
Times And Costs |
| If
you would like to compare estimated time and costs with actual
time and costs, you can manually enter or have automatically
transferred estimated information from PRESStige Estimating.
You can then use the report generator to design reports comparing
estimated to actual time or cost. This information can be organized
by job, department, employee of however you like. |
| |
| Efficient
Data Entry |
| The
data entry functions have been designed specifically to minimize
the number of keystrokes. The Enter key is used to move to the
next field so that you don't have to reach for the tab key.
Use of the mouse can be eliminated entirely during data entry
to make entry quicker. You don't have to memorize employee and
activity numbers, just enter part of the name or description
and the program will find the correct item for you. |
| |
| Changing
Posted Transactions |
| Since
the "audit trail" for Job Costing entries is not as crucial
as in the accounting modules, you are allowed to simply change
a transaction after it has been posted. This allows you to quickly
make changes when you discover errors in the data. |
| |
| Complete
Inventory Control |
| The
inventory portion of the system can function as a price lookup
function or a complete inventory control. There are two basic
databases, paper and "items". Items can be any non-paper item.
You can enter an unlimited number of items into inventory. |
| |
| The
Report Generator |
| This
is the key part of the system that makes it possible to get
the most value out of this application. You can design any number
of reports, each with a specific purpose. You can sort the data
by any chosen data field, do arithmetic between fields, select
labor codes to each time and cost column and much more. These
reports are saved for you and can be easily modified when they
are in need of fine tuning. There is no limit to the number
of reports you can define. |
- Reports
can be printed portrait or landscape with any desired font
size.
- We
have samples reports available showing what can be done
with the report generator including:
- Job
Cost with Non-Chargeable This report shows the labor code
ranges and custom titles placed on the report.
- Work
in Process This report shows the cost all jobs in the
shop that are not yet completed.
- The
Job Cost Report Generator can be used to print just about
any report you can imagine. Common uses for the report
generator include:
- Estimated
vs. Actual, by job, by department.
- Performance
Reports, showing impressions per hour etc.
- Employee
Analysis, comparing performance among employees.

| Standard
Job Cost Reports |
These
standard reports are pre-defined and handle the bulk of the
housekeeping chores. These reports are designed to fit on 8.5x11
paper with a 12 point font.
- Job
Status Report This report can be handy for production meetings.
It shows the current status of the job, where the job is
currently located and who worked on it last. You can specify
how many transactions per job you wish to show on the report.
It can be sorted by job number or customer.
- Job
File List This report allows you to see the current jobs
in your shop and the jobs basic status. You can show all
jobs, completed only or in progress only. You can sort the
jobs by job number, customer name, sales rep or due date.
You can also include shipping statistics at the end of the
report if you wish.
- Profit
Performance History When jobs are completed they are saved
for historical purposes. This report allows you to view
that history. You can focus on profit or on "performance".
Performance measures how close your actual time and cost
matched the estimated time and cost for the job. This report
can be sorted by job number, customer, sales rep or job
type.
- Department
File List A simple list of the departments defined.
- Activity
File List Shows all defined activities and the department
with which they are associated.
- Employee
File List Shows employees on the system and their hourly
rate (if any).
- Customer
File List Lists customers known to the system. If you have
PRESStige Accounts Receivable program, then Job Costing
will use the customer file already established in that program.

| Job
Costing |
| A
key feature of job costing is the report generator. The generator
allows you to create custom reports analyzing your data in virtually
any fashion. The system keeps track of these reports so you
don't have to re-define them unless you wish to modify the report.
This screen shows a typical list of pre-defined reports. |
 |
| |
| Modification
of Job Cost Reports |
| It's
easy to create and modify these reports. Each field can have
a special heading. Your labor can be broken down according to
chargeable, author alterations or other criteria. |
 |
| |
| Job
Cost Data Entry |
| Data
entry has been streamlined for quick entry. Data can be gathered
from time cards and entered here, or labor and material can
be captured in real time off the production floor. |
 |
| |
| Job
Status |
| The
current status of a job is readily available. Any necessary
corrections can be made with just a click of the mouse. |
